In this lecture, I explicate some of the key concepts from Fredric Jameson's seminal essay, "Postmodernism, or The Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism". Drawing on a Marxist framework, Jameson explicates how the material base of contemporary commodity production via a global market and its interrelated tools such as telecommunications and news media creates a cultural dominant as symptom, which is postmodernism. Examining some of postmodernism's key critiques and conditions, Jameson charts the relationship between socio-economic changes and their corresponding aesthetic changes. Enjoy!
