See inside Uppark's 18th-century dolls' house - a behind the scenes film from the National Trust

Описание к видео See inside Uppark's 18th-century dolls' house - a behind the scenes film from the National Trust

Open the doors of the dolls' house at Uppark House in West Sussex for a glimpse into 18th-century life. In this video, you’ll join Maria Jordan, Textile Conservator and Studio Manager of the National Trust’s Textile Conservation Studio in Norfolk. Maria will take you through some of the highlights of the dolls’ house, which served a practical purpose: to teach wealthy young women about household management.
From miniature porcelain pieces to intricately made textiles, every object in the dolls' house is identical to those found in a stately home built in the 1700s. There are around 400 objects in the house, and each has been made with the same level of craftsmanship as their life-sized counterparts.
You’ll also get to see some of the work National Trust conservators have done to look after the 300-year-old beds from the dolls’ house. Jane Smith and Claire Golbourn, both Senior Conservators, will show you how they clean and restore these miniature objects at the Textile Conservation Studio. You’ll also discover something unexpected that was found underneath one of the beds.
