The pandemic precipitated a massive digital transformation, which is particularly evident across enterprise and education. A McKinsey report suggests that this transformation and technological boom has been accelerated by several years, and is likely here to stay.

In the past, productivity applications would have been located on premises — in an office building or a factory, for example. Now, productivity is sold as a service, and can be accelerated by 5G, which enables instant access to cloud computing and storage.

That’s good news for remote workers. Thanks to cloud computing, morale and productivity have increased across the enterprise — and Qualcomm doesn’t expect this model to change going forward. It’s incumbent on businesses to embrace this new world to attract and retain top talent.

Still, more than 60 percent of workers struggle with IT issues in the home, and 25 percent of the working population doesn’t have access to a reliable WiF network. Qualcomm believes Snapdragon Compute Platforms will improve these conditions at the enterprise level.

In 2017, we recognized that the smartphone experience had eclipsed the laptop experience, so we rebuilt our compute platforms from the bottom up. Now, the compute, or laptop, experience more closely resembles the smartphone experience, with thin and light form factors, multi-day battery life, and extreme levels of security.

Enterprises love ARM-based compute platforms for a number of reasons, especially their sustainability capabilities. ARM-based PCs use less power per watt — enterprises that swap out devices with x86 compute platforms for ARM-based PCs can expect to vastly lower their carbon footprint. And for the day to day end user, ARM-based PCs offer multi-day battery life, impressive portability and performance, and extreme security for a worry free computing experience.

ARM-based 5G enabled Snapdragon Compute Platforms also have massive implications for education. Students who remained connected during the pandemic didn’t lose a year of learning, while students who struggled with connectivity did. 46 percent of households globally lack reliable connectivity, and 70 percent of students globally were impacted by pandemic related school closures. At Qualcomm, we view connectivity as a fundamental right and moral responsibility.
