Welcome to another edition of The Record Machine Show — I’m your host, James Michael Hollenstein, and today we’re diving into the world of an artist who brings together musicianship, storytelling, and genuine emotional insight in a way very few can.
Our guest is an acclaimed Dutch musician, a seasoned multi-instrumentalist, a gifted producer, and a dedicated music therapist whose work has impacted not only listeners around the world — but also countless young people and families through his therapeutic practice. His music is eclectic, heartfelt, and deeply personal, blending elements of rock, jazz, Latin grooves, and cinematic emotion in a sound that is uniquely his.
This year marked a major milestone with the release of his fourth solo album, Four, which arrived in February 2025.
It’s a beautifully crafted collection of ten songs exploring love, courage, desire, memory, and what it means to live fully — even in turbulent times.
What makes it truly special is that every part of the album — the writing, performing, engineering, and production — comes straight from his own hands and heart.
From McCartney and Bowie to Prince, Radiohead, Scandinavian pop, and the bold energy of Knower, his influences run deep — yet his music always remains unmistakably his own.
Beyond the studio, he works as a music therapist helping adolescents and families break unhealthy patterns and rediscover their voices through music.
And as a lecturer in an international music therapy master’s program in Rotterdam, he’s shaping the next generation of music therapists around the globe.
All of that experience, emotion, and life perspective comes together in the music we’re featuring today.
It is my pleasure to welcome Harry Kappen to The Record Machine Show.
