The summer of 2022 will be remembered in the UK as the year of the heatwave, and some plants thrived in the hot dry weather, as you can see in this video.
All three plants are in full glorious flower during the summer heat on our small doorstep patio, there are
Lantana -Tutti Frutti' - amazing clusters of flowers that change from pink to yellow as the flower buds open and then back to Pink again as the flowers mature. The result is a rainbow of shades of yellow, orange, and pink all at the same time!
Canna Lily - available in many different leaf and flower colours; ours is in its 2nd year in a large terracotta pot and this year has been putting on a great show - many more flower bus still emerging.
Eucomis - the Pineapple lily - ours is one called 'Sparkling burgundy' with a hint of dark burgundy to the leaves and a hint in pink flowers / flower buds.
All 3 seem to attract bees and butterflies in our garden to varying degrees and seem to be very happy growing in pots on our south / west facing small patio.
The Lantana needs more winter protection and we normally transfer it to a greenhouse in later autumn as harder frosts approach, and then cut it back in later winter (still in the greenhouse) quite hard so that there are woody stems of about 6inches in length and just a few leaves. We add some high potash fertilizer and then through spring lots of bushy new growth develops and then ew put it back outside again late May / early June.
