For Judy Chalouh-Benjamin '23, the Occupational Therapy Doctorate means using research to address community needs.

Inspired by an OT Doctorate credo to identify a societal problem and solve it, Judy created an educational series to help seniors prevent debilitating falls, a leading cause of injuries and loss of independence.

Her initiative, part of her doctoral capstone, provided seniors with valuable tips and guidance on how to to avoid slips, trips and falls, and even on how to fall the right way. Judy delivered the program to residents of JASA, a non-profit and licensed home care agency in New York, and assessed its impact.

“The residents loved the materials that I gave them because it changed how they approached risky situations,” Judy said. “It’s always a pleasure working with the older adult population because they have so much life experience to share. It was a very enjoyable experience.”
