How did that happen?

We start our week at Uley Long Barrow, (known locally as Hetty Pegler’s Tump after Hester Pegler who owned the land in the 17th century.) It is a Neolithic burial mound, at least 5,000 years old. Between 15 and 20 skeletons have been recovered from the burial mound over the years, but little is known about these finds now.

Next we venture out to the Cotswold Airport. It is the country's largest privately owned airport, 532 acres in size. It's home to Air Salvage International (ASI), one of the world's largest privately owned aircraft recyclers. The British airport remains one of the top places where aircraft go to die (also known as a boneyard). The airport is located four and a half miles from the village of Kemble. Built by the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1936, it was previously known as RAF Kemble.

We stop in Stonehouse, which appears in William the Conqueror's Domesday Book of 1086 under its Old English name “Stanhus” – so called because the Manor house was built of stone rather than the usual wattle and daub. In the centre is the Millennium Stone, a sculpture to reflect Stonehouse at the start of the millennium.

Our final visit this week is to Tetbury.
Tetbury is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and the second largest town in the Cotswolds. It is the home, Highgrove, of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Tetbury was an important market for Cotswold wool and yarn during the Middle Ages.  Today, it is better associated with boutique shops, great food, and its Royal Connections.
