Sick Sedan - Rick Wetherbee's Twin Turbo Impala SS

A heavy Chevy 4 door drag car? That's probably what everyone thought when Rick Wetherbee got started on this project. The truth of the matter is that his insane 1996 Impala SS isn't all that heavy now that it's in drag car trim. Chris Terry Racing built the chassis, and there isn't much left of the original frame...only the bits and pieces required to run in the Limited Drag Radial class. The car is packing over 2500 horsepower, thanks to a big block Chevy with twin 91mm turbos.

Even though the body looks mostly original, many of the heavy steel panels have been replaced with lightweight carbon fiber or fiberglass. Check out Rick Wetherbee making a couple passes at the May 2019 heads up race at Brainerd Motorsports Park in Ringgold, Georgia. The car was making some wild passes, and eventually made its way to the finals. His opponent broke in the finals (after the burnout) giving Rick the win on a solo pass.
