BRITISH NATIONALITY FOR CHILDREN IN & OUT OF THE UK

Children born out of the United Kingdom can attain British citizenship by descent, depending on the facts such as when they were born and their parent's status at the time of their birth.

What's considered British by descent?

Suppose either of your parents or both were born in the United Kingdom, and one of them or both were British citizens. In that case, you will be a British citizen regardless of your birthplace. If you were born away from the UK, you are regarded as British by descent, and you can automatically apply for your first British passport.

However, if you are a British citizen of descent, you cannot pass on British citizenship to your children. Your child must first register with the British authorities to apply for their British passport. Nevertheless, you must be living in the UK for a minimum of three years before the birth of your child. Also, you must not be away from the UK for over 270 days throughout these three years. You are also required to register your child's British nationality before their 1st birthday.
