America’s First VTOL Pilot Training School Approved by the FAA | Archer's Midnight Aircraft Takes Flight!
In a groundbreaking move for the future of urban air mobility, Archer, a California-based company, has reached a significant milestone in its mission to revolutionize air travel. Recently, the Federal Aviation Administration granted Archer a Part 141 certificate, officially recognizing its pilot training school for the company’s innovative VTOL aircraft, the Midnight. This is a major step forward in the development of electric air taxis, which could soon change the way we think about transportation in crowded cities.
Archer’s Midnight VTOL is designed to cut down travel time in cities by allowing passengers to skip the gridlock and fly above the traffic. This fully electric aircraft can take off and land vertically, making it perfect for urban environments. With a range of 100 miles and a top speed of 150 mph, the Midnight can carry up to four passengers and their luggage, all while emitting zero harmful emissions. It’s powered by 12 electric motors, each with its own propeller, drawing energy from six battery packs.
What makes this announcement even more exciting is the fact that Archer already has a production facility in place, called Arc, located at the Covington Municipal Airport in Georgia. The factory is nearing completion, with plans to produce two Midnight aircraft per month by the end of the year, and ramp up to 54 per month once full capacity is reached. The U.S. Air Force has also shown interest in the Midnight due to its rapid charging capabilities and ability to handle back-to-back flights, signaling the potential for military applications as well.
Archer is not just focused on manufacturing aircraft; it’s also setting up the first-ever pilot training school for VTOLs in the U.S. While details about the location and the number of pilots to be trained remain scarce, this certification paves the way for a new era of aviation. Archer’s vision of transforming city transportation is becoming more real every day, and the introduction of their pilot school marks a significant leap forward.
