We’re growing cauliflower from seed in our 4x8 raised garden. 🌱
Cauliflower has had a serious glow-up over the last few years. It’s found its way into pizza crust, as a substitute for rice, and even into ‘mac’ & cheese… don’t be deterred… it’s shockingly tasty.

Much like its culinary versatility, cauliflower has planting versatility.

📏SEED SPACING: You can grow cauliflower two ways in the Garden Grid. One per Garden Grid square. Or one every other Garden Grid square. The latter allows for plants to grow larger.

🌱PLANTING DEPTH: Keep it shallow. Seeds only need 1/4” of soil cover at most. Basically, lay the seeds down and lightly dust them with a handful of soil.

🌡️ GROWING TEMPERATURE: nothing above the mid-70s. Cauliflower prefers mild to cool weather to mature (45 to 75 degrees air temp), & they can withstand moderate frost (26 degrees) for a couple of hours. However, prolonged frost will damage the head (curd) of the cauliflower.

💧 WATERING: Seeds & seedlings, water daily for a few minutes with your Garden Grid, until established. For mature plants, water often enough to keep the soil moist ~2″ below the surface. For us in fall and winter, that’s about 1-2x per week in our raised garden beds.

☀️ SUN NEEDS: Cauliflower does best in moderate to full sun, so make sure they’re grown in an area that has 6+ hours of sun exposure per day.

👩‍🌾 HARVEST: Most are ready to harvest after 70-90 days.
