How Walkable Is Downtown Indianapolis Indiana? Indianapolis, Indiana is a city that's bigger than what most people think. It's a city close to 900,000 people and close to 2 million when you count all the surrounding suburbs. So, you might think that the downtown Indianapolis area could be fairly spread out. But, that isn't entirely correct. Downtown Indianapolis is covers more area than what most people know... even those who live here... but "downtown proper" is quite compact. Indianapolis, Indiana is certainly known as a sports town like other cities but the downtown area helps to contribute to this fact. Walking around downtown to see games at some of the major stadiums like Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Lucas Oil Stadium, and Victory Field is extremely easy to do. It's pretty surprising how close these venues are to one another. But, there are also some of the best restaurants located in this extremely walkable portion in all of Indianapolis. Other than that you have White River State Park, the Indianapolis Zoo, and several museums. You can literally park your car and not go back to it for the entire day. Indianapolis, Indiana has a fantastic downtown and the walkability is just one of the positives. Check this video out to see just how walkable it is!
