The 340B Drug Pricing Program was enacted and became part of the Public Health Service Act in 1992. Thirty years later, the program has developed immensely, and is now the backbone for many safety net providers around the United States.

Most of the time, a Covered Entity’s choice to implement the 340B program is a beneficial, sustainable source of funding for the organization. Federally Qualified Health Centers, Community Mental Health Centers, Disproportionate Share Hospitals, Ryan White providers and other Covered Entities report that becoming a Covered Entity is 90% of the challenge. It is lifeblood for those that successfully implement a program through their in-house, clinic-owned or contract pharmacies.
