India Today Conclave Mumbai Live: Praful Patel On Maharashtra 'Power War' Where Turmoil Will Lead

Nationalist Congress Party leader Praful Patel said the Election Commission will decide who's the 'real NCP'. The Election Commission called the rival factions of the party for a personal hearing on October 6.

Praful Patel said all 51 Maharashtra MLAs, barring Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik who were in jail at the time, and 15 ministers of the NCP wrote to party chief Sharad Pawar that they were ready to join the BJP and Eknath Shinde in June 2022. Patel added that when Eknath Shinde broke away from the Shiv Sena, the NCP leaders wrote to Sharad Pawar saying they should form the government in Maharashtra with him.

"Our desire at the time was to join a BJP-led government," he added. Praful Patel further said the plan did not see fruition because they were expecting that Devendra Fadnavis would be sworn in as Maharashtra Chief Minister.
