With years worth of questionable links being exposed to her aunts autocratic regime, how much longer will Keir Starmer support Tulip Siddiq?
Right, so the corruption saga of Keir Starmer’s corruption minister has taken an all new twist, begging more questions in regards to just how much distance this said minister, Tulip Siddiq, has actually placed between herself and the dictatorial regime of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh’s longest serving Prime Minister, which collapsed last year, with Hasina, who is Siddiq’s aunt, seeking refuge in India.
Where investigations are ongoing into the multibillion pound embezzlement case that is being levelled against Hasina, of which Siddiq and her mother, Sheikh Rehana have also been implicated in, the matter of a property gift from an associate of Hasina to Siddiq has now raised eyebrows even more, because the property remains in Siddiq’s possession and it all adds fuel to the fire that Siddiq is too close to the Bangladeshi regime, her family ties to it already problematic from a purely optics perspective, but with that corruption case ongoing and now property being handed to her as well having come out, along with some other awkward comments Siddiq has also allegedly made in the past, for how long can Keir Starmer continue to express confidence in her, when it becomes more and more difficult for the general public to?
Right, so we’re back to Tulip Siddiq, Keir Starmer’s corruption minister, the MP for Hampstead and Highgate, Economic Secretary to the Treasury and therefore she is the Corruption Minister by extension, since her treasury role includes regulation corruption within the financial sector. That has caused Starmer an almighty headache since Siddiq was named at the end of last year in a financial corruption case involving the deposed former leader of Bangladesh and Siddiq’s aunt, Sheikh Hasina, as well as Siddiq’s mother, Sheikh Rehana, who was also a politician in that same Bangladeshi government. The UK’s corruption minister involved in financial corruption, the optics couldn’t possibly be worse.
The accusations here centre around a deal brokered between Bangladesh and Russia for a new power station, the deal actually brokered allegedly by Tulip Siddiq herself. A UK politician working for Bangladeshi interests and that of her aunts regime? Yeah, that’s putting in some distance isn’t it? The investigation alleges that Siddiq’s family in Bangladesh embezzled up to £3.9bn from infrastructure projects like this one, which on its own alleges that some £1bn was siphoned off into private hands. The investigation is being carried out by Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission, the ACC, it’s being prompted by a political rival in Bangladesh to Hasina, Bobby Hajjaj, so arguably there could be a political motivation here you might think, but the ACC clearly have enough evidence to have opened and investigation and that can’t just be dismissed.
