Trump threatens China with "50 percent additional tariffs" US President Donald Trump announced that if China does not withdraw the 34 percent customs duties it announced as retaliation for the reciprocal tariffs, they will impose an additional 50 percent tariff on this country. Trump shared a post on the subject on his Truth Social account.

Recalling his warning that any country that retaliates against the US will immediately face higher tariffs, Trump stated that despite this, China has issued additional tariffs beyond its "long-term abuse" of the US.

Trump pointed out that China has already announced retaliatory tariffs of 34 percent in addition to its "record-high" tariffs, non-monetary tariffs, subsidies for companies, and long-term major currency manipulation, and noted the following:

"If China does not withdraw its 34 percent tariff increase for long-standing trade violations by tomorrow, the United States will impose an additional 50 percent tariff on China effective April 9. In addition, all negotiations regarding the talks they requested with China will be terminated."

Trump stated that negotiations will begin immediately with other countries that have requested talks.
