Wrapping up my Dicksonia Antarctica (tree fern) for the winter

Описание к видео Wrapping up my Dicksonia Antarctica (tree fern) for the winter

You all know that I absolutely adore my tree ferns, (Dicksonia Antarctica)but they do need a little bit of protection from our nasty cold and wet winter weather, and it’s time to start thinking about offering them a little bit of protection for the months ahead

The most important part of the plant is actually the top 15 to 18 inches known as the crown, and this is where most of the nutrients and water are absorbed from at this time of year I like to place a handful of well rotted organic compost directly into the crown. This will feed a nourish it during the winter months and also offer it some protection from the cold.

I’m Then going to remove a couple of fronts and tie them over the top securing them over a 100% cotton cuff if the weather gets particularly severe down below -5 I might then place a towel on top just to give it one more layer

Provided they receive some basic protection, they can stand temperatures down to about 15 with no problems at all
