The city of Sunland Park and Doña Ana County will continue overseeing the Camino Real Regional Utility Authority, also known as CRRUA, despite residents' requests for an independent third-party intervention.

Residents have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, citing ongoing struggles to access safe water after CRRUA's supply was found to contain arsenic.

Irene Rodriguez, a Sunland Park resident of over 60 years, shared her frustration, saying, "It's affected us a lot." She explained that residents have resorted to using gallons and bottled water due to the contamination.

Attorney Marisa Ong, representing the plaintiffs in a lawsuit filed November 2024 against CRRUA, argued that the city and county have a conflict of interest as they are also defendants in the case.
