Gretchen Hull is a pianist based in San Jose. Gretchen has performed in Norway, Germany, and for numerous concert series throughout the US. Most recently, she produced and performed in Calando: a chamber music benefit concert that succeeded in raising over $34,000 for World Renew's relief projects in Ukraine and Gaza (June 2024). Other recent performances include recitals for Noontime Concerts: San Francisco’s Musical Lunchbreak (2023) and the Forte House (San Francisco, 2024) She has also been heard performing in solo concert and/or been interviewed on radio and TV stations including WCNY, WSKG, and WPEL. A passionate chamber musician, recent collaborations include Jolivet’s
Concertino for trumpet with Mark Hughes (principal trumpet, Houston Symphony, 2023), the world premier of Colombian-American composer Diego Vega's Scherzo for Trumpet and Piano
on the Nextet contemporary music series (University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 2022), and the world premier of Nate May’s new work for four hands (2023) commissioned for the CAPMT convention (with Yu-Chi Tai). A semifinalist in the Pianale International Piano Academy and Competition (Schlitz, Germany), she has also been a selected participant at the rigorous Domaine Forget (Québec), the Chautauqua Piano Program, the International Keyboard Institute & Festival (NYC), and the Ringve Early Music program (Norway, harpsichord). Gretchen completed her DMA and MM at Temple University (Philadelphia), where she studied with Charles Abramovic as a University Fellow. She received her BMus from Houghton University, where she studied under Leon Fleisher student William Newbrough. Also sought-after as a teacher, her private students have taken several recent top prizes and competed as finalists in a number of national and international competitions. In her spare time Gretchen enjoys rapid chess and competing in Highland dance.
