Komodo National Park, Indonesia - Scuba Junkie Komodo

We moved from North Sulawesi, Indonesia to Komodo National Park to dive with Scuba Junkie (SJ). According to SJ: The stunning Komodo National Park is a UNESCO world heritage site and one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Located just off the west coast of the beautiful Flores Island, this national park offers world class diving and the chance to see fascinating fauna, flora and endemic species such as the famous Komodo dragon (Varanus komodoensis). The area was established as a park in 1980, the main focus being to preserve the populations of the dragons. However, since then the biological importance of the park - both terrestrial and marine - has become abundantly clear and so the park works to protect all of the biodiversity within the park.

We debated whether to do Komodo as a liveaboard or a land-based vacation. We were pleased with the choice to dive with SJ in Komodo at their resort. We woke early each morning and boarded one of their 3 large dive boats for the day, often returning after 4 pm. Breakfast was served onboard as we motored to our first dive site, with lunch served between the second and third dives. We very much enjoyed the calm boat rides viewing the scenic Komodo landscape. It felt like a liveaboard experience, just with dinner and sleeping at the resort at night. @CarolFarrisBarber continues to hone her dive skills and hopefully loving all the first-time experiences.

We spent a day on the island of Rinca to get up close and personal with the magical dragons and were treated to sightings of the wild buffalo, deer and crested black macaque monkeys only found here.

The best part of this trip was meeting like-minded people from all over the world who love to scuba dive and appreciate the raw nature. Can't wait to meet up again.

We highly recommend diving in Komodo National Park to all our dive friends. It's so diverse from seahorses and nudi's to giant Mantas. We'll definitely be back to experience this amazing place again.

Our 🧭 compass now points Northeast back to Malaysia to dive Palau Redang, with a brief stop in Bali to dry out for a few days.
