A 15 year study of over 83,000 men with low testosterone shows that men treated with testosterone were 56% more likely to be ALIVE as compared to men who were not treated, or received sub-therapeutic doses. The men treated had 24% less heart attacks and 36% less strokes.
This is consistent with multiple previous studies, and directly contradicts the recent smaller VA study that showed an increase in heart attack and stroke in men treated with testosterone who had a preexisting diagnosis of heart disease.
The previous study was poorly done, in fact over 40% of the men who were given testosterone NEVER had a followup blood test, and no consideration for weather those treated actually achieved therapeutic blood levels.
This most recent study flies in the face of the FDA who recently made a position statement that men with low T should not take therapy if the cause of their low T was because of age related reduction in testosterone. Based on this most recent study, the FDA position could be responsible for hundreds of thousands of premature deaths based on the large numbers of older men with low T in the US.
