Whitney Plantation // New Orleans with Kids

Описание к видео Whitney Plantation // New Orleans with Kids

Although our trip to New Orleans included some french quarter fun, our actual reason for visiting the New Orleans area was to retrace the footsteps of our ancestors. This quest led us to the Whitney Plantation. My mother's familial roots are in Louisiana. Based on the research of our family historian it is highly probable that my ancestors exited the slave ships after their grueling journey directly into modern day New Orleans.

When I first heard about the Whitney Plantation, I knew that we had to visit. Not many plantations dissect the slave experience from the point of the view of the enslaved person. Not only was the point of view more impactful for me as an adult, but it allowed Roo to truly connect with the stories she was hearing. Some may argue that a museum dedicated to slavery is no place for small children, but I disagree. Visiting the Whitney Plantation is necessary for everyone, not just adults.

Worldschooling isn't just beautiful landscapes and fun, it is an educational experience. The beauty of worldschooling is that physical experiences like the visit to the Whitney Plantation will stick with children for a lifetime.
