The Mighty Wurlitzer. Gems from the golden age of cinema, ballroom and theatre organs.

2008 collection of organ-ic favorites. In Britain, owing largely to the enormous popularity of the organ at the Tower Ball, Blackpool, Wurlitzer has become a generic for all makes of cinema/theatre organ. Elsewhere, while the distinction may have been clearer, the Wurlitzer sound was rated superior to that of other `Unit' organs. Whereas eighteen of the tracks on this CD are of Wurlitzers, only five are Comptons although Compton built more British cinema organs than any other firm. Wurlitzer eclipsed its rivals, however, for as Geoffrey Wyatt stylishly observed (in At The Mighty Organ, in 1974) if Comptons [had] all the colors of the spectrum squeezed out on an artist's pallet, Wurlitzers had captured the rainbow itself.
