In this session, Dr. Himayatullah Yaqubi will speak on the political situation of the Peshawar Valley, Swat and Malakand before the coming of the Pakhtun tribes under the leadership of Malak Ahmad Khan Yousafzai. He evolved a tribal confederacy and captured the entire region within a short span of 30 years. In the subsequent development land distribution took place and a separate cultural identity of the Pakhtuns took place in the shape of Pakhtunwali.

About the speaker:

Dr. Himayatullah Yaqubi has been a Research Fellow at National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research (NIHCR), QAU, from 2006 to 2017. Presently, he is Assistant Professor at the Department of History, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. He has also authored a book titled “Mughal-Afghan Relations in South Asia: History and Developments” (2015).
