Steam in Eastern Cuba in 2024. Preparing the oldest still functioning locomotive in Cuba.

Описание к видео Steam in Eastern Cuba in 2024. Preparing the oldest still functioning locomotive in Cuba.

In this video we are visiting the railway station and workshops in Rafael Freyre, north of Holguin in Eastern Cuba.
On the 2 1/2 - foot (76 cm) narrow gauge railway around Rafael Freyre, there are still passenger traffic using railcars.
The lines today are part of the former sugar-mill lines for the sugar mill Rafael Freyre/ Santa Lucia, which was closed around 2003.
The railway has kept the steam locomotive number 1 / 1180 in working condition for use with visiting tourist groups. Number 1 was built by Baldwin in 1882, and is the oldest functioning steam locomotive in Cuba.
The locomotive bears the name "La Mambisa", but over the years the crew has always called it
"La Chiquita", because it was the smallest of all the locomotives there.
Join us to follow the heating and oiling, and to make a test run with this oil-fired gem, before the tourists arrive.
A big thank you to the friendly workshop in Rafael Freyre.
