[TAS] Mario Party 7 - Pokey Pummel (1"08)

this tas was super easy to make, so easy in fact that i'd consider this video filler


I'm honestly surprised that nobody thought to do this before me. I couldn't find a single TAS for Pokey Pummel that utilized pause buffering, so I decided to make one myself.

For awhile now, it's been thought that the fastest possible time you could get on this minigame was 2"15. This time can only be achieved by mashing at a rate of 30 Hz (30 times per second), which is close to impossible to achieve in realtime. Due to how the game runs at 60 FPS, mashing any faster will cause the game to register the button as being held down, resulting in less presses per second.

However, this constraint can be circumvented by pausing. By pressing A for a frame, pausing the game, releasing A while the game is paused, unpausing, pressing A for another frame, and then repeating this cycle for the rest of the minigame, we can mash at a rate of 60 Hz, effectively halving the previous time of 2"15 down to 1"075 (which is rounded up to 1"08). Therefore, unless if we use hacks to somehow increase the framerate, this is THE fastest possible time.
