Simple Jelly Roll Half Step quilt using 2 1/2 inch STRIPS! 5th in a series to use leftover strips!

Fifth project in a series using 2 1/2 inch strips to make scrappy quilts! The third Saturday in September is "National Sew a Jelly Roll Day" and Moda Fabrics had this great pattern to use with a Jelly Roll. I make one quilt with a Jolly Good Jelly Roll. I make a second "scrappy" quilt using some leftover strips from my 2 1/2" strip bucket! What works for a Jelly Roll will also work for leftovers. The Moda website has a great variety of wonderful patterns that you can download and print at home.

Here's the link to the pattern "Half Step" from Moda Fabrics:

Stay to the end to see the alternate color way using my leftover strips in pastel colors. There is also an update on the scrap bucket situation and how that is looking!
This quilt uses about 9 yards of fabric when you include the strips, background, binding, and backing.

If you want to make a larger quilt, double the requirements for the quilt top. Use all the strips in the Jelly Rolls to make 80 blocks, set 8 x 10 to make an 80" x 100" finished quilt top.

I've challenged myself to do a new project each month using only 2 1/2 inch strips from my scrap buckets. I have always saved leftover strips from projects and cut up small leftover fabric from yardage into 2 1/2 inch strips and put them in a bucket for some "future" project . The future is now! It is time to tame the scrap bucket and use up these strips. I'll always have a scrap bucket of strips because I'm constantly adding to it but I want to get it down to just ONE bucket instead of three...make that seven after the "GREAT SORTING"! This series will last until I'm down to one bucket. Let's be honest, it will take at least 2 years to use up enough strips to make a difference! So join me on this project adventure to use up fabric scraps!
