Aston Villa: From European Champions to Relegation in 5 Fast Years

In 1981, Aston Villa were the English First Division Champions thanks to their iconic manager Ron Saunders. One year later, despite Saunders resigning, under interim manager Tony Barton, AstonVilla won a historic European Cup (Champions League) title as they beat Bayern Munich 1 - 0 in the final in Rotterdam. But following this, with chairmen Doug Ellis back in the club, things spiralled our of control quickly, and five years later in 1987, Aston Villa were relegated to the English Second Division.
