Maria - Scratch my back (LP version)

Born Carmelia Maria Nato Lopes in Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) in Mozambique, on 4 March 1945. She was raised in Johannesburg, South Africa, and in 1964 started singing professionally at venues such as Archies nightclub and the Lourenço Marques restaurant, both in Hillbrow, as well as at the Top of the Carlton. She was discovered by Dickie Loader when she sang backing vocals on one of his singles. She subsequently had 4 South African Top 20 hits, with “Clap Your Hands, Stamp Your Feet" going to number 1 in 1973, and charting for 19 weeks. She won a SARIE award for Top 20 Artist of the Year in 1974. She sadly passed away in 1980.

This song was released on 7" single and on the album “Portrait Of Maria” in 1974.
