Chof Av - Special Presentation

The 20th of Av marks the Yahrtzeit of Rabbi Levi Yitzchak Schneerson, the Rebbe’s father.

Rabbi Levi Yitzchak served as chief rabbi of Dnepropetrovsk in the Soviet Republic of Ukraine. During his years of leadership, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak was resolute in the struggle to preserve Soviet Jewry, never giving in to mounting pressure from the Communist regime.

After torture and interrogations in Stalin's notorious prisons, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak was tried in Moscow and sentenced to exile in Central Asia. He passed away on 20 Av 1944.

During his years as rabbi, and even while in exile, Rabbi Levi Yitzchak wrote thousands of manuscripts of Torah analysis. To this day, his writings stand out as some of the most unique works on Kabbalistic thought of the last century.

The Rebbe often spoke about his father’s self-sacrifice on behalf of Yiddishkeit, marking the Yahrtzeit each year with a special Farbrengen in his honor.
