William De Smet in Sailor's Box - interviews in a different way!

William began sailing at the age of ten in the Optimist class and competed in his first international races in 2008. In 2010, he switched to the Laser 4.7 class, where he won several prizes. A year later, he continued with the Laser Radial.

In 2012, he joined the VYF Talent Team of the Flemish Yachting Federation. Since October 2014, he has been a member of the VYF Olympic Team.

In May 2014, he became Belgian Champion in the Laser Radial class and in July of the same year, he won bronze in the same class at the 2014 World Championships in Poland, behind Poles Stelmaszyk Jonasz and Rudawski Marcin[1].

Later in 2014, he switched to the Laser Standard class.

De Smet studied sports science at Artevelde University College in Ghent. He competed in the ILCA 7 class at Paris 2024, finishing 22nd.
