When the real Gautama returned and discovered the truth, his rage was uncontrollable. He cursed his wife, Ahalya, to become unseen to the world—often described in folklore as turning into stone—living in penance for ages without food or air.

She waited in silence for thousands of years until the arrival of the Avatar of Vishnu. As Sage Vishwamitra guided Lord Rama into the abandoned ashram, a miracle unfolded. The moment Rama stepped forward, his divine presence broke the curse. Ahalya was freed, becoming visible and radiant once again, bowing to Sri Rama with trembling hands.

Even the gods rejoiced, because Dharma had returned and mercy had won. 🙏

Source of the Story:
This narrative is based on the Valmiki Ramayana (Bala Kanda). While Valmiki depicts her as becoming invisible/unseen doing penance on air, later versions like the Ramcharitmanas and folklore popularize the version where she turns into a stone (Shila) and is liberated by the touch of Lord Rama's feet.
