The Western countries, unable to directly purchase oil from Russia due to the imposed bans, turned to India as their source. Consequently, India's economic growth received a substantial boost. Even the United States, with its desire to reduce India's relations with Russia, went from not purchasing even 1% of Russia's crude oil to buying half of the oil exported by sea today.

You might wonder where Russia's maritime oil exports have gone. Well, India and China have become the largest buyers of Russian oil, collectively accounting for almost 80% of the crude oil exports shipped by sea. India's strategic location and its advanced refineries, such as the world's largest refinery owned by Reliance Industries in Jamnagar, Gujarat, have played a vital role in this process.

These refineries process the oil and oil products, catering to India's own demands as well as the global market. India sells these products at market prices, generating substantial income and increasing the country's foreign currency reserves. Notably, a report by the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air highlighted India's significant contribution to its own economic growth during this war.

While some accuse India of taking advantage of wartime sanctions, it is essential to recognize that these decisions were made to safeguard the Indian economy. By not increasing petrol prices to extreme levels, India has ensured the well-being of its citizens and maintained economic stability. This has also positioned India as a key player in international trade, with countries like Bangladesh beginning to trade using India's rupee currency.

Today, no European country can afford to antagonize India, as they heavily rely on India for their oil product needs. India's economic success can be attributed to its masterstroke of leveraging Russia's affordable oil and establishing a thriving wholesale business.
