Описание к видео (Coach O.) Capturing Kids’ Hearts Reflection By Otis Brown

Capturing Kids’ Hearts Reflection
By Otis Brown (Coach O.)

Hello, my name is Otis Brown—also known as Coach O.—and I’m both an educator and a coach and this is my Capturing Kids’ Hearts Reflection. Funny enough, I never set out to be an educator, even though coaching has had me walking that path all along.

On June 24th, 2024, I had the opportunity to attend a two-day Teachworthy Capturing Kids’ Hearts seminar in Round Rock, TX, presented by the outstanding Alyssa Schiller and Trish Douglas. This experience was designed to equip new teachers with tools that truly help shape classroom culture and student relationships—and it delivered.

We kicked things off by creating a Big Group Goal, also known as a Social Contract, which included powerful words like Efficiency, Participation, Optimism, Validation, Support, and Listening. These weren’t just buzzwords—they were commitments we made to one another to model for our future classrooms.

Over the two days, we participated in role-playing exercises, where I was fortunate to be chosen as one of the participants. These scenarios helped us work through real-world challenges: what if a student walks out? What if they never engage in the lesson? These discussions were eye-opening and made me think more deeply about empathy, patience, and presence.

One of the most powerful parts of the seminar for me was the Positive Affirmations segment. This was a time for us to speak from the heart—about our life experiences, school memories, and how we were impacted by others in the room. It reminded me of something a childhood friend, Larry Murphy, once told me: “You never know what a person is going through unless you talk to them.” That truth came alive for me in that moment.

This seminar didn’t just teach—it connected. I made new friendships, including a great one with Logan, and even received a potential job offer in Round Rock.

So to Teachworthy, and to Alyssa and Trish: Thank you. Let’s keep showing up, building bridges, and Capturing Kids’ Hearts—one student, one classroom, one conversation at a time.
