The Committee of Fiscal Studies (CFS) has been a prominent voice advocating for the establishment of a new global financial architecture, calling for the abolition of traditional entities like the IMF and the World Bank.

In an interview with ION News, Dr. Lyla Latif, co-founder and chair of the Committee of Fiscal Studies, emphasized the urgent need for international fiscal corporations that are fair, just, effective, transparent, and accountable. She highlighted that the Addis Ababa Action Agenda has yet to be fully implemented, underscoring the importance of using the upcoming Financing for Development (FFD4) conference in Sevilla as an opportunity to redesign the current fiscal system and the global financial architecture.

Dr. Latif stressed that a reformed system would better serve developing countries and promote a more equitable and sustainable global economic order.

“CFS is here to talk about the importance of not just reforming the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. It’s about creating an alternative fiscal & financial architecture that is going to stand in the lime light, that is going to stand as the voice of resonance of fiscal legitimacy and fiscal responsibility for the Global South.
So here we are, to say, we do not want the World Bank & the IMF anymore. These institutions must be dismantled because they have colonial undertones and they are the ones that have created this power asymmetry and world inequality that we are seeing. So there has to be an alternative. The Committee on Fiscal Studies is proposing this alternative, and this alternative is being proposed through what we call the House of Fiscal Wisdom” stated Dr Lyla Latif.
