Diatonic vs chromatic harmonica

Описание к видео Diatonic vs chromatic harmonica

Diatonic - simple construction, easy to carry and clean. Relatively cheaper than chromatic, plays single notes, Needs advanced techniques such as Bending, Tounge blocking, Overblowing, etc. comes in more number of keys. good for jazz, blues and western music. Selected bollywood songs can also be played on some keys and all others can be played once advanced techniques are learnt or more keys are added to your collection.

Chromatic- This can be considered as an advanced type of Harmonica. The construction is a bit more complex as it has the moving slider which when pressed or depressed opens up another semitone of the notes. It needs more care in cleaning or dismantling and reassembly. It can broaden the range of playing by only a single instrument and without developing the skills such as Bending or Overblowing. However, Bending on chromatic does add character to your playing but it's not mandatory and a wider range can be played on a single instrument as compared to the diatonic. It can be used for playing western classical and is a favorite for bollywood songs.

Hope this gives a good insight to these 2 types of harmonica.
