🔶 Birth rates falling for decades across most countries outside Africa. One of the key factors is the cost of housing and in the UK the ratio of house prices to earnings has gone from 3.5 times in 1997 to around 8 times in 2022. This means young people cannot move in together until much later, which impacts the number of children families have.

🔶 A key factor in the large increase in house prices over the past 25/30 years is the increase in the population, largely driven by immigration. Fewer births mean you then don't have the children growing up in enough numbers to sustain the working-age population.

🔶 While the population grows through immigration, successive Governments have not put the infrastructure in place to cope with more people. For example, the UK Government has the policy to reduce water use per person by 2038. But over the past 30 years, while the population has grown by 10 million, there have been no more reservoirs.

🔶 Indigenous populations across many nations are being told to make sacrifices rather than putting in the infrastructure. Rishi Sunak's pool at his mansion takes around 91k litres to fill. This is the same water use as someone taking a 5-min daily power shower for 3.3 years. But there is talk of banning a power shower to hit water use targets. Another rule for thee but not for me.
