Using Split View on macOS allows you to work in two apps side by side without needing to manually resize windows. It’s a convenient feature built into Mac that boosts productivity by making multitasking much easier. To activate Split View, start by opening the first app you want to use—for example, Chrome. Then, move your cursor to the green full-screen button located in the top-left corner of the Chrome window. Instead of clicking it, hover your mouse over the button. After a second, macOS will present you with several options including “Tile Window to Left of Screen” and “Tile Window to Right of Screen.”

Click on either option, depending on which side you want the current app to appear. Once you select a side, macOS will shrink that window to fit half the screen and display all your other open windows on the other half. From there, click the second app you want to use. This app will automatically take up the remaining half of the screen, completing the Split View setup.

You can also adjust the width of each app by dragging the divider bar between the two windows. To exit Split View, move your mouse to the top of the screen to reveal the window controls, then click the green full-screen button again. The app will exit full-screen mode, and your desktop will return to the standard layout.

Split View is available on most recent versions of macOS and works with both built-in and third-party applications that support full-screen mode. If you don’t see the Split View options, make sure your macOS is up to date and that the app you're trying to use supports this feature.
