The #mentalhealth #crisis in the United States and the lack of needed resources to help the countless people who are part of the #epidemic of people suffering often invisibly with #mentalillness is at the root of the unrelenting #gunviolence epidemic leading to the senseless deaths of too many people. The weekend of December 13 to December 15 brought with it an overwhelming onslaught of devastating deaths: shootings as Bondi Beach in Australia on the first night of Hannukah, a shooting a Brown University, the murder of Rob and Michelle Reiner and the shooting of an MIT professor in Brookline, MA. As a singer songwriter and psychotherapist, I cannot watch this unmitigated cascade of killings continue without speaking out. "Broken Minds," is about what underlies what is happening in our country--personal stories that are far too invisible highlighting the total absence of adequate resources to help individuals and families struggling with the pain of drug addiction, psychic pain and mental illness in all its forms that truly break people and create tragedy. Can we PLEASE join together to address the deeper roots of what is happening and work towards healing and a safer world?
