RallyTop Suzuki Samurai, What’s it Like?

I recently acquired this awesome 1-Piece removable fiberglass hardtop for my 1986 Suzuki Samurai. After calling up RallyTops and waiting a few weeks, it was my turn to see what all the hype was about.

I’ve had this top for about 3 months now and can say I am liking it more and more each day! It really helps keep the car clean and out of the elements. If you are never selling your samurai, want a more practical samurai to drive daily, and want to keep it in pretty good shape, I would definitely recommend it.

Things I really like about my Rally Top:
-tinted windows
-adds a few inches on each side of the car, as well as about 4” of overall head room (versus a soft top)
-heavy duty roof rack with adjustable rails, you can adjust them to meet your load
-nice inner carpet liner
-quiets road noise
-makes you car feel more like a car, better for a daily driver

However, along the way there were definitely a few small details that I initially overlooked or was not aware of with the product itself.

Areas where this product could be improved
Rear hatch window opening without the need for opening the tailgate (personal preference, can be retrofitted)
Cheap hardware used throughout (latches, etc.)
Paint needs to be grinded near the targa bar so the top can clear
Small crack in fiberglass near targa bar on both sides, probably from the install
Added on rear light does not work, and is pretty clunky/outdated (not worth the extra $$)
Sliding windows have slits in them and are modified to fit the molded window slots
’Goop’ added to hold everything together

If I could do it again, I don’t know if I would... I would probably rather put that money towards a second Tin-Top car (more on this later) if I wanted a hard top roof, and keep the topless samurai, you know, topless ;)

Please note, I have not tried to remove it and reinstall it, not sure how hard/easy that will be, I will add on that later..

They are very friendly, real people, and they offer a super unique product that basically nobody else provides - for that I give them all the credit!
