Turf interaction while chipping is a non-negotiable. Without proper contact between the club head and the turf, the ball will not become airborne. To ensure proper turf interaction at impact, it's essential to keep both arms relatively straight with your weight on your lead side when striking the ball. Two common mistakes to avoid while chipping are falling away from your shot and prematurely bending your arms. Falling away from your shot causes your club to move away from the ground prematurely, leading to thin shots because the club's sole doesn't interact with the turf. Likewise, if you prematurely bend your arms in an attempt to lift the ball, the club will rise too high through impact, resulting in thin shots. Consistently achieving turf interaction on the target side of the ball while chipping will greatly increase your chances to save par.
