Johannes Brahms (1833. – 1897) I., c-moll szimfóniáját (op. 68.) 20 éves korában kezdte el, és 20 éves előkészületi munkálatokat követően 1876-ra fejezte be. Bemutatója 1876. november 4-én volt Karlsruhében.
A romantika korában élt, de tudatosan a bécsi klasszikus zenei formákhoz nyúlt vissza. Wagnerrel szemben nem újító volt, hanem a Beethoven szellemiségét vitte tovább. Kortársai az I. szimfóniáját "Beethoven X." szimfóniájának nevezték.

Johannes Brahms (1833–1897) began his Symphony No. 1 in C minor (Op. 68) at the age of 20 and, after 20 years of preparatory work, completed it in 1876. It premiered on November 4, 1876 in Karlsruhe.
He lived in the Romantic era, but consciously returned to the Viennese classical musical forms. Unlike Wagner, he was not an innovator, but continued the spirit of Beethoven. His contemporaries mockingly called Symphony No. 1 Beethoven's "Symphony No. X."

Lamberto Gardelli (1915. - 1998.) olasz karmester, akit 1992-ben Budapest díszpolgárává avattak.
Zenei tanulmányai a pesarói Liceo Musicale Rossiniben kezdte el Amilcare Zanella és Adriano Ariani tanítványaként. Később Rómába ment, ahol az Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia zenekonzervatórium diákja lett. Tullio Serafin segédjeként dolgozott a római operaházban. 1944-ben mutatkozott be, Verdi Traviatáját vezényelte. 1946–1955 között a stockholmi Királyi Operaház, 1955–61-ben a dán rádió első karmestere volt. Közben vendégeskedett Berlinben, New York-ban és Londonban is. 1961 és 1966 között a Magyar Állami Operaházban vezényelt, de közben eleget tett nemzetközi felkéréseinek.Számos nagy sikerű felújítás fűződik nevéhez: Manon Lescaut, Ory grófja, Carmen, Macbeth, A lombardok, Figaro házassága. Az 1970-es években sorozatban mutatta be Bellini operáit és Verdi korai műveit (Stiffelio, Alzira, A haramiák, Ernani, A pünkösdi királyság), amelyekből hanglemezfelvételek is készültek.

Lamberto Gardelli (1915 - 1998) was an Italian conductor who was made an honorary citizen of Budapest in 1992.
He began his musical studies at the Liceo Musicale Rossini in Pesaro as a student of Amilcare Zanella and Adriano Ariani. He later went to Rome, where he became a student at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia music conservatory. He worked as an assistant to Tullio Serafin at the Rome Opera House. He made his debut in 1944, conducting Verdi's La Traviata. He was the first conductor of the Royal Opera House in Stockholm from 1946 to 1955 and of the Danish Radio from 1955 to 1961. He also made guest appearances in Berlin, New York and London. Between 1961 and 1966, he conducted at the Hungarian State Opera House, but in the meantime he fulfilled his international requests. He has many successful revivals to his name: Manon Lescaut, The Count of Ory, Carmen, Macbeth, The Lombards, The Marriage of Figaro. In the 1970s, he presented a series of Bellini operas and Verdi's early works (Stiffelio, Alzira, The Thieves, Ernani, The Kingdom of Pentecost), of which recordings were also made.
