Explained | PM Modi To Visit Ukraine: Understanding India's Stand On Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Poland today (Wednesday), making it the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 45 years. This visit also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Poland. Morarji Desai was the last Indian Prime Minister who visited Poland in 1979.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Leaving for Warsaw. This visit to Poland comes at a special time- when we are marking 70 years of diplomatic ties between our nations. India cherishes the deep rooted friendship with Poland. This is further cemented by a commitment to democracy and pluralism”.

He also said that he would hold talks with Poland’s President Andrzej Sebastian Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. PM Modi will also be addressing the Indian community at a programme in Warsaw this evening.

The Prime Minister would be in Poland for two days from August 21-22. He will visit the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on August 23 to hold talks with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
