As we just heard, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is expected to board a train to Beijing and all eyes are now on whether there will be a three-way summit between the leaders of China, Russia and North Korea.
For more on this, we're joined by Professor Mason Richey, Professor of International Politics at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.


1. With North Korea's Kim Jong-un set to attend the military parade in Beijing on Wednesday, he's likely to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian leader Vladimir Putin there. Could this serve as an opportunity for North Korea, China, and Russia to strengthen their cooperation against the West?

2. Kim rarely leaves the North, and this is believed to be the first time the North Korean leader is taking part at a gathering of foreign leaders. What might the North try to gain from the trip, and what message might it deliver at the event?

3. Some analysts say the North Korean leader’s debut on the multilateral stage could signal an opening for dialogue with the United States. What's your take on this? How likely is it that the regime will return to talks with Washington, and possibly even South Korea?

4. President Donald Trump said he might visit South Korea soon for a "trade meeting." If he decides to attend the APEC meeting in South Korea this October, could it provide a chance for a meeting between Trump and China's Xi Jinping?
