When your vehicle service interval calls for a new set of spark plugs; facing the selection of platinum, iridium, copper nickel – and a wide variety of price points may seem confronting. Let’s see what they’re all about.

For over 110 years, Bosch has led the world in spark plug production. For a long time, copper nickel spark plugs were the reliable standard used by most vehicles.

Their much shorter service life was covered by frequent replacement. As engine technology evolved, spark plugs have evolved with it.

Bosch responded to the need for longer lasting spark plugs with the use of the precious metals – platinum and iridium.

These advanced plug designs stand up to higher compression ratios, leaner fuel mixtures, stricter emissions standards, higher spark voltages, and much longer service intervals.

If your vehicle uses copper nickel spark plugs as standard, you can upgrade to platinum or iridium at your next service.

This may help with better fuel economy, easier starting and saves time with less frequent plug changes required.

A vehicle requiring platinum plugs can be upgraded to iridium for the same effect. If the service specification calls for an iridium plug as standard; only iridium plugs may be used.

Your spark plugs should be changed at each recommended interval. However, when replacing copper nickel plugs with a platinum upgrade – the service interval can be doubled. Add up to twenty five percent longer again for iridium plugs.
