Sky News host Chris Kenny says US President Donald Trump has turned Middle East diplomacy "on its head for the better" despite critics predicting strife on the global stage.

Mr Kenny said when President Trump shifted the US embassy to Jerusalem, it was "a bold recognition of sobering reality" and his critics predicted strife.

"Instead, the Trump White House has brokered breakthrough peace deals between Israel and three Arab league nations; Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Sudan, with the promise of more to come," he said.

American Commentator Danielle Pletka told Sky News "even people who can't abide Donald Trump have had to grudgingly accord him some respect".

"He came in, tossed out the rule book, said he wasn't interested in what all the clever experts were going to say or how it used to be or how he was supposed to act,

"And he and his son-in-law - again something that really bugged people in the United States - managed to upend the Middle East in ways no one could ever have imagined."

Ms Pletka said President Trump had numerous accolades on foreign policy including changed global perceptions of Beijing and in getting NATO allies to ante up on defence spending.

Mr Kenny said "defence and foreign policy" had hardly figured during presidential debates as the Sky News host's US road trip took him to Norfolk, Virginia - a region rich in military history.

Ms Pletka said President Trump had complained he hadn't felt like he had received "enough credit for increases in defence spending and support for the military".

"There's no doubt Biden would come under huge pressure from the far-left flank of his party on Capitol Hill to reduce defence spending," she said.
