This is like Bourbon, but a bit better!
One of the key features of bourbon whiskey is the use of virgin American oak for aging, so what happens if you take three bourbons, and then finish them in other virgin oaks?
Well, you no longer have a bourbon, but you have something that's very close, and according to the folks at Barrell, a little better! That's because they have taken three bourbons and finished them in More Virgin Mizunara, virgin French, and virgin American Oak.
This is from Batch 4 and comes in at 56.77%ABV or 113.54 Proof, so let's dive into it!
Barrell Vantage American Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose:
The nose is immediately oaky, but surprisingly sweet, with chocolate, cola syrup, tropical fruits, creme brulee sugar and a bit of orange peel
Palate:
The palate is similar to the nose, but with dark spicy notes coming in. The sugar moves towards maple syrup, and baking spices like cinnamon, with some vanilla and stone fruit behind the oak.
Finish:
On the finish, the fruity notes move towards figs and plums, with some ginger spice and tannins balancing out the creamy mouthfeel on the finish.
Overall, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this whiskey! It's from Barrell, so I expected it to be good, but this one was really enjoyable. If you're a fan of bourbon, you'll find a lot to love here, so I'd recommend giving it a try!

I'm a total whiskey nerd and this channel is all about Whiskey, Whisky, Bourbon, Rye, Pot Still Whiskey and Single Malt Whiskey. I'm always on the hunt for the best whiskey and love making whiskey review videos. My passion is for Irish whiskey, but I'm open to looking for the best Bourbon or the best scotch too!
I'm an Irishman, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying whiskeys from all around the world, from Kentucky bourbon to Japanese single malts. I also love making cocktails, especially whiskey cocktails (or whisky cocktails) and really enjoy taking a classic recipe and adding my own twist to it, or making simple, 3 ingredient cocktails
