The Victorian government’s withdrawal from the Commonwealth Games will reflect on Australia when the country decides to bid for other future events, says International Olympic Committee Member John Coates.

“It must reflect on Australia when we’ve committed to host an event and thinking that we had the support of the state government and they’ve pulled the plug,” Mr Coates told Sky News Australia.

“The World Rugby Cup coming and of course, we’ve got the Olympics coming 2032 … so it must raise a question mark about Australia.

“A question will have to be answered whenever we’re bidding for events in the future.”
