Expose to the right is a common landscape photography term that is a theory on balancing exposure in your image. To expose your image this way, you'll need to use the built-in histogram on your camera. Expose your image so that the values on the histogram are as far to the right as possible WITHOUT touching the right side of the graph.

By avoiding values on the right side of the graph, you protect the highlights, ensuring that you don't blow any highlights out in your image. This is generally the recommendation for landscapes because it's much easier to recover shadows that are too dark than blown-out highlights.
