Monique Haas (1909-1987), French pianist, was noted for her interpretations of Debussy, Ravel, and Bartók. She studied at the Paris Conservatory with Joseph Morpain and Lazare Lévy, taking a Premier Prix in 1927. She later studied with Robert Casadesus, George Enescu, and Rudolf Serkin. Her repertoire also included works by Bach, Chopin, Couperin, Haydn, Hindemith, Messiaen, Mozart, Poulenc, Prokofiev, Rameau, and Schumann. She was married to French-Romanian composer Marcel Mihalovici, who wrote many of his piano compositions for her. Haas was regarded as one of the most influential and highly praised pianists of the early and mid-20th century.
